What to Post When You Have Nothing to Say About Your Business

What to Post When You Have Nothing to Say About Your Business

You sit down to make a social media post, open Facebook or Instagram and suddenly you cannot think of one single thing worth saying about your business. You made products, have things for sale, have a to-do list a mile long but somehow figuring out what to post feels harder than making the actual product.

Sound familiar?

Here's something I want you to understand. You don't have to come up with something new to have something worth posting.

Stop Looking for Something New

One of the biggest mistakes I see small business owners make is thinking they need something exciting to talk about every single day whether it is a new product, sale, holiday party, or some other big announcement.

You don't!

You can talk about something you've already made, show people how to use something you sell, answer a question customers ask all the time, or just remind people that a product exists. Because here's the thing, just because you've talked about something before doesn't mean everybody saw it and even if they did see it, that doesn't mean they remember it.

Start With What You're Trying to Sell

Before you spend an hour scrolling for inspiration, ask yourself one question.

What am I actually trying to sell right now?

Not what would make a cute post not what everybody else is doing. What do you have sitting there that somebody could buy today? Pick one thing, now think about what somebody needs to know before they would buy it, maybe they need to see what it looks like, understand what it's for, who it would make a good gift for or how somebody uses it. There's your starting point.

You Don't Have to Sell in Every Post

Now don't take that to mean every post needs to scream BUY THIS, sometimes people need to get to know you, understand what you make, see a product more than once before it even registers that you sell it. A useful post might show the product being packed, another could answer a question or explain why you made or chose it and yes, sometimes you need to just tell people what you're selling and where to buy it because that's allowed too.

Stop Trying to Make Every Post Perfect

I've watched small business owners spend more time trying to figure out what to post than it would have taken to actually post something. They change the picture, rewrite the caption, second-guess the hashtags and then decide it's too late to post and tomorrow they're right back in the same spot. Meanwhile, the product they wanted to sell hasn't gotten in front of anybody new. A useful post that actually gets published beats a perfect post sitting in your drafts. Every Single Time.

What If You Still Can't Figure Out What to Post?

This is exactly why I created my I Don't Know What to Post ChatGPT Thread Starter. I didn't want to hand somebody another list of 100 content ideas and tell them to figure it out, because that's usually the part they're already struggling with.

I wanted something that would help a business owner look at their actual business, figure out what makes sense to post right now, and get that post finished. Not another marketing lesson or worksheet. An actual post they can use.

The Thread Starter walks you through the process in your own ChatGPT conversation, so you don't have to know all the right marketing questions to ask and you don't have to start from scratch every time.

If you're tired of staring at that blank screen, take a look at I Don't Know What to Post.

Because you've already got a business to run and you shouldn't have to spend half the day figuring out how to tell people about it.
