How to Sell a Product You've Already Made | Coach Julia
You Made the Product. Now How Do You Actually Sell It?You made the product. You took the pictures. You wrote the description. You might have even gotten it listed on Etsy or your website. And now you’re sitting there wondering why nobody is buying it. This is the part of running a small business that nobody seems to talk about enough. Making something and selling something are two entirely different jobs. And just because you’re good at the first one doesn’t mean you automatically know what to do with the second. Your Product Isn’t Going to Sell ItselfI see this happen with small business owners all the time. They spend days, sometimes weeks, creating something they’re excited about. They get it finished, post a picture, tell everybody it’s available, and wait. Maybe a few friends like the post, somebody comments that it’s cute, and then nothing. So what happens next? They start making something else, a new product, a different color, another collection, something for the next holiday like a perpetual hamster wheel. Because making things feels productive and it is, but making more products doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing how to sell the ones you’ve already made. One Post Isn’t a Marketing PlanHere’s something I wish more small business owners understood. You don’t have to announce a product once and then never talk about it again. Most people didn’t see your first post, some saw it but couldn't spend money that day. Others might need to see how the product works, who it’s for, or why they would want it before they’re interested. That means you need to show the same product in different ways. Stop and read this twice this is not copy and paste the same sales pitch every day but actually give people different reasons to pay attention. Start With What You’ve Already MadeBefore you go create another product, look at the one sitting right in front of you. Ask yourself:
Those answers give you something to work with. For example, if you sell a handmade gift, you could show who it’s perfect for, how it’s packaged, what makes it different, and what it looks like being used. If you sell a digital product, show somebody what they actually get and what they can accomplish with it. You’re still talking about the same product. You’re just giving people more than one reason to care. You Don’t Need Another Idea. You Need a Plan to Sell This One.And I don’t mean some enormous marketing plan that takes longer to create than the product itself. I mean a few actual posts that you can put in front of potential customers. I am talking a good product picture, a clear explanation, a demonstration when it makes sense, a reason somebody might want it, and a link that takes them directly to where they can buy it. Then post those things or schedule them because a folder full of marketing ideas isn’t going to sell anything either. This Is Exactly Why I Made a Thread Starter for ItOne of my ChatGPT Thread Starters is called I Made It. Help Me Sell It. It’s for the small business owner who has something finished and needs help getting it in front of buyers. You bring the product into the conversation. The Thread Starter helps you work through what matters, figure out what to say, and create actual selling content around that product. Not another product idea and definitely not another project to add to your list. The goal is to get you from I made this to I’m actually marketing this. Because you already did the work of making it. Now let’s give somebody a reason to buy it.
